Configure Main and Backup Archive servers

To ensure Archive resiliency, you can configure both a Main and Backup Archive server. The Backup server can be activated if the first one fails.

The following instructions assume that you have the Main Archive Server already configured.

Procedure

  1. Access the Enterprise Manager.

  2. In the Installation tree, select the server that is to be the Backup Archive Server.

  3. Assign the Central Archive role to the server.

  4. In the Installation tree, expand the server to which you assigned the Primary Centralized Archiving Role.

  5. Select the Central Archive role on the Main Server.

  6. Click the Secondary Role tab.

    The Server Roles window displays.

  7. Check the box next to the Central Archive role on the Backup server. (The Main is the one selected on the left; the Backup is selected on the right.)

  8. Click Save.

The selected Backup Archive Server picks up the recorder associations from the Main Server. Other configuration information, such as drive definitions, must be manually synched between Main and Backup Servers.

If the drives on the Backup server do not match those on the Main server, the system will generate warnings about the mis-matched drive configuration until the Backup server is configured closely enough for failover to succeed.
