Set Up the Primary and Secondary Data Centers in Enterprise Manager

When configuring the secondary data center to support data center switch overs, you use the Enterprise Manager application in the primary data center to perform these tasks:

  • Specify the Site Group or Site in the Enterprise Manager Installations tree that contains the servers in the primary data center

  • Assign the appropriate standby secondary data center server to each server in the primary data center

Before performing this procedure you must know the following:

  • The Site Group or Site that contains the servers in your primary data center.

  • The standby server in the secondary data center that corresponds to each server in the primary data center.

  • The following information about each standby server in the secondary data center:

    • Host name, FQDN, or IP address

    • Port number on which the server listens for connections. The default ports for HTTP and Secured (TLS) are listed below:

      • HTTP - Port 80

      • Secured (TLS) - Port 443

    • The HTTP Alias

To perform this procedure, you must have these privileges:

  • View Data Center Redundancy Setup

  • Edit Secondary Data Center

You must also have the privileges required to view and edit the Site Group or Site that contains the primary data center servers.

To set up the primary and secondary data centers in Enterprise Manager:

  1. From the Enterprise portal Home page or main UI access point for all WFO applications. in the primary data center, Click System Management > Data Center Redundancy > Setup.

  2. At the bottom of the left-hand pane, select Setup Primary Data Center.

  3. In the Setup Primary Data Center screen, select the Site Group or the Site that contains the primary data center servers.

  4. Click Set Primary.

The following occurs in the user interface:

  5. In the right-hand pane, specify the information that applies to the standby server in the secondary data center that corresponds to the primary data center server that is automatically selected in the left-hand pane.

For example, if the server selected in the left-hand pane is the primary data center Application Server, in the right pane, enter the information for the corresponding standby Application Server in the secondary data center. Essentially, you are identifying the Application Server in the secondary data center as the standby server for the Application Server in the primary data center.

Complete the information in the right-hand pane as noted below:

    Field

    Description

    Name

Type a name for the standby server.

This is the display name of the server’s icon in the Installations tree.

This name is at your discretion. The name must be different than the display name that appears for the corresponding server in the primary data center.

    Server Name

Enter either the Host Name, FQDN, or IP address of the standby server that corresponds to the server in the primary data center that is selected in the left-hand pane. Enterprise Manager uses this name to connect to this server.

The name entered in this field cannot include an underscore character (_). Server names that include underscores are not supported by the Enterprise Manager application.

The name entered in this field automatically appears in the HTTP Alias field.

Important: If Enterprise Manager communicates with this server using TLS, this field must specify the exact same server name that is specified in the common name field of the server’s TLS server certificate. For more information, see the Security Configuration Guide.

    Port Number

Specify the port number (default 80) on which the standby server listens for HTTP connections. Enterprise Manager uses this port to connect to the standby server if the HTTP communication between the Enterprise Manager and the managed server Server that is managed by the Enterprise Manager application. is unencrypted (that is, TLS is not being used to encrypt Enterprise Manager/Server communication).

    HTTPS Port Number

Specify the port number (default 443) on which the standby server listens for TLS connections. Enterprise Manager uses this port to connect to the standby server if TLS is being used to encrypt the communication between the Enterprise Manager and the standby server.

    HTTP Alias

The HTTP Alias field defaults to the same server name that is entered in the Server Name field.

    Important:

You can accept the default value for this field for all servers except servers that are part of an Application Server cluster.

If the server you are adding is part of an Application Server cluster, you must enter the HTTP address of the load balancing device that distributes connections to the clustered servers in this field.

  6. Click Save.

  7. When the message appears at the top of the screen indicating the server was successfully created, click Next.

  8. The next server in the primary data center is automatically selected in the left-hand pane.

Repeat step 5 through step 7 to specify the information for the standby server in the secondary data center that corresponds to the primary data center server that is selected in the left-hand pane.

When you have associated a standby server in the secondary data center to every server in the primary data center, this procedure is complete.

After you have associated the last standby server in the secondary data center to the last server in the primary data center, you should wait for the Pending Messages Pending Messages icon icon to disappear from the top of the screen before proceeding with these procedures.
